Hello darlings!
I hope you're having a lovely week! I know for many of you, the summer holidays are approaching fast if they haven't started already and you're looking forward to a good break from work or school! My summer started officially last Friday and so today, I decided to tell you about the healthy summer morning routine I've been doing as I like to stay active and healthy in summer. I hope you enjoy reading this post!
~ I‘m quite an early riser so I‘m often the first one awake in my house, which is something I really like because it means I have at least a whole hour to myself to do anything I want to before everyone wakes up.
When I’m properly awake but not before 7.15, I like to go down to the kitchen and have a big glass of water because I‘m really trying to stay more hydrated. While it’s sometimes hard to think about drinking during the school day, summer is the perfect time to fall into a new healthy routine so this is one of the things I’ve started doing, especially as a big glass of water first thing in the morning makes me feel very refreshed.
I then go back up to my room and read a book in my bed for at least half an hour. In summer, I like to open my curtains to let the light in because I love the morning light and the feeling it gives me of having the whole day in front of me to do anything.
After this, I get out of bed and I do some yoga for about 15 minutes (sometimes more and sometimes less), which is a habit I got into in the spring and which I’ve really been enjoying. I’ve downloaded a few apps (which I’ll probably write a blogpost about if you’re interested) which offer good yoga stretches so I sometimes just do one of these routines. However, most of the time, I find a video on YouTube which guides me through a whole practice of the length that I want (usually from the amazing channel Yoga with Adriene). It’s more demanding than stretches but not too hard for an out-of-bed morning session either and I feel like it really helps to get me motivated for the day.
By then, it’s probably past 8.00 and I still have a little time before the majority of my family is awake so I put my summer playlist on and sit down at my desk with my bullet journal. I finish incomplete spreads if there are any and also write my to-do list. During this time, I might also start doing a few easy tasks that I wrote down or tidy my room or desk.
Between 8.30 and 9.00, my whole family will be awake so we all go down for breakfast. I always eat some bread which I spread with butter and jam and I only ever drink water as I'm not a fan of juices, tea or coffee. I‘m not going to pretend that I have avocado on toast or an açaï bowl or anything else that seems to be trendy amongst bloggers at the moment because I don’t like avocado and I barely know how to make an açaï bowl! But I don’t think my breakfast is particularly unhealthy and at least it fills me up for the morning!
After breakfast, I go up to brush my teeth and I also wash my face with a soap that’s really gentle on the skin and which probably cleans more in depth that the usual cleanser that I use daily when I’m more rushed. I also apply a moisturising cream to my face and brush my hair. I then get dressed, make my bed and then I always try to get straight into the tasks that I’ve written in my bullet journal and simply get on with my day!
I hope you enjoyed reading this post and do tell me if you’re going to try to implement something I do to your own morning routine. This routine is quite easy to fall into and change and adapt to your life but the main reason I like it is that there's a good mix of healthy habits and things that get me motivated which is really important for me. I actually meant to publish a post I wrote about how to be productive and make the most of summer before this one, but I had issues when transferring it so couldn't post it in the end. You'll be able to find all these productivity tips in my next post. But also remember that it‘s summer and that means you can still be flexible and just enjoy doing what you want!
See you soon in the next one!
