Why 'New Light' is the perfect song for this ending summer

I've never considered myself to be a country music kind of girl. The combination of my very French upbringing and London life means it's not a genre I've been exposed to on a daily basis. However, my favourite song of the moment and this August's 'New This Month' pick, New Light by Amy Lawton, seems to take me back to Taylor Swift's country early days so that's making me think maybe I'm more of a country music girl than I seem to think.

I discovered this song thanks to Instagram. Yes, that's right, the Instagram algorithm we all love so dearly actually suggested something worth clicking on for once, a 1 minute extract from the single that immediately appealed to me. I listened to the whole song on YouTube, loved it and had it stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Out since the 9th of August, this is Lawton's fourth single following Undone, Don't Bring Louise and Hurts Like Paradise and the best one yet in my opinion! In an interview with CUB Magazine almost a year ago, the Manchester-born singer explained her songs were inspired from 'personal experience and life'; there's definitely a nostalgia to her melody and lyrics that is just right for this end of summer season. However, the song still remains vibrant and catchy and never fails to brighten up my mood. I just can't wait to see what Amy Lawton has coming next!
