School has started and after the last minute heatwave we had a couple of weeks ago, the weather is becoming less reliable every day, so I think it's fair to say that summer is most definitely over. I always find it hard to turn the page and look forward to autumn and winter, especially this year: in the UK at least, blue skies and warm temperatures had just about made an appearance by the start of June, so having to switch back my wardrobe already for those colder months feels completely wrong. But with a new season come new fashion trends and styles and I do feel like in those cooler times, there is more of an opportunity (and time, judging by how short summer is in this country!) to express your personal style and experiment with trends. So today, I've picked out the top 5 fashion trends that stand out for me as the most interesting and wearable ones for the season!

1. Dark florals

This is by far my favourite trend and definitely one you can adapt to fit your personal style. It definitely doesn't have to be super girly for you to be able to make this trend your own because the whole point of it is that it is based on dark colours and there are many different ways to interpret it. You can go for the all-dark colour scheme, the big splashes of colour as showcased by Prada (see below) or remove the black from your outfit altogether by opting for dark red, brown and green floral tones as replacement for example. You can also opt for the small (like Paco Rabanne) or big flowers, and although there seems to be a particular emphasis on dresses, I think I'll be trying out this trend with this mini skirt from Vero Moda and a basic white V-neck jumper I have from last season, for a chic but comfy look. It's a skirt I wore in the summer, but it's quite long on me, so it's perfect for the early autumn paired with boots, or even with tights a bit later in the season.

2. Victorian details

You might be thinking that this seems completely crazy but even a one minute look at one of the hundreds of runway shows from the spring will confirm that this trend is massive. Obviously, depending on your style, it's going to be a love it or hate it situation, but I could not leave this trend out. Although the catwalk went all out with the Victorian details, by which I mean cuts, frills, ruche, lace and bows amongst others, I personally think that the best way to incorporate this trend to your own wardrobe is through a simple blouse; those details are all in the collar and sleeves and can be kept quite subtle so something as basic as a blouse is the perfect way to try out the trend but still keep the rest of your outfit true to your style. Although, it's probably not a trend that will be making it into my wardrobe, there are some really nice pieces in high street stores such as this beige blouse from H&M which can really add a trendy touch to a formal or workwear outfit.

3. Bright red

I thought I would share with you this colour trend of the season, which is one that I'm much more willing to experiment with even though it is definitely not a colour that I am used to wearing. In fact, writing this, I am mentally scanning through my wardrobe and can't think of a single piece that is any shade of red, least of all bright red. I think a safe choice and the piece I would opt for personally to add some brightness to my wardrobe would be a jumper like this one by Pimkie, with a very classic cut and silhouette, which you can pair with neutral colours like grey, beige or white or even brown and pink which are also extremely on trend this season.

4. Wide-legged trousers

I feel like that's a trend that we saw emerging last season but it's come back even bigger and bolder this year in all sorts of patterns and colours. It's a trend that I love in the way wide-legged trousers suit many people and despite what might be thought, they can really be the key piece to a feminine silhouette. Although wide-legged trousers don't suit my style, I think they still looks great and I would personally match a cropped pair similar to these from Whistles with a basic piece like a chunky knit jumper and ankle boots. The more I imagine it in my head, the more I think that would be a super cute and trendy outfit for autumn!

5. Leather

This trend is huge this year with many designers showcasing full-leather looks (see Sally LaPointe below) and often bright-coloured leathers as well, but obviously, with a leather trend always comes controversy and expense. To avoid that, I would recommend trying out pu leather or faux leather to still enable you to experiment with this trend. To me the absolute go-to piece to experiment with would be a skirt in a neutral colour like this one by Missguided which you can pair with a blouse for a smart look or with a chunky knit jumper again for a more comfy one.

I think there's something for everyone within these trends this season, even just in this small selection which I did try to make as varied and interesting as I could! I really hope you enjoyed this post and I would greatly appreciate if you could tell me what you think as I did a lot of research and put a lot of time and effort into it so knowing that you liked it would mean the world to me!

Until next weekend darlings x
